Choose how the assistant listens and answers

Set device voice settings

Use Voice settings to choose the assistant device and adjust how answers behave.

1. On the phone, open Settings, then Voice. On the web, open Voice.Voice
2. Select the assistant device shown in Assistants or Satellites.
3. Set Announce volume for the answer volume.
4. Set Playback mode for how an answer interacts with music.
5. Set Wake word to persona for each supported wake word if you want a different voice or persona.
6. Select Save to apply the draft.Save

Adjust room behavior

Room behavior is managed in Home room settings. It includes Listening, quiet hours, and room announcement settings.

1. Open Home room settings.
2. Review Listening and room announcement settings for the room.
3. Set quiet hours using both a start and an end time in the home’s timezone.
4. Remember that devices and speakers in the same room are associated automatically.

Choose playback behavior

Playback choices control what happens when the assistant answers around music. Let the room decide uses the available room behavior. Duck the music lowers or intercepts music for an announcement where supported. Take over the speakers uses full playback. These options are not guaranteed to work with every provider.

If something is missing

If no assistant appears in the home, no assistant was returned for that home. That is different from a failed read. Choose the correct home and check device reachability.

A physical microphone mute shown as Muted on the device cannot be changed from a screen toggle.
