Control locks and understand a jam

WebiPhoneAndroid

Use this when you want to control a lock in your home and understand what a jammed reading means. The device detail view may show only the controls and readings that apply to that lock, and Home Security is still Coming.

Open the lock

Open the correct home, then open Home or Devices, and select the lock. Only the capabilities returned for that device are shown, so the controls you see may differ by platform and by device. Web, iOS, and Android all use the same general flow, but the exact device detail screen can look different on each platform.

  1. Select the device that is the lock you want to control.
  2. Choose the intended Lock or Unlock action, then complete its confirmation. Lock and Unlock are opposite actions, so choose the one you want.Lock

Read the status and jam messages

A first press is not proof that the door locked or unlocked. Wait for the home to answer and then review the lock status. Jammed is a reported fault, not a command result. If you see Jammed, check the door safely and clear the obstruction instead of trying the action again and again.

  • Lock is a control and needs confirmation.
  • Jammed is read-only and means the lock reported a fault.
  • Unknown means no valid reading, not Off or zero.

If the lock does not respond

If the lock is unreachable or returns no valid reading, check power and the displayed connection. Do not repeatedly execute the action to diagnose a failed read. Use Support with the room, the device name, and the problem you observed. If a specialized phone screen uses different wording, follow the wording shown there rather than inventing a gesture from this generic guide.
