Control speakers and room playback

WebiPhoneAndroid

Control playback, volume, and speaker grouping for a speaker or room from the correct home in ALYT. The controls you see depend on the specific device, and some actions work only when the current playback supports them.

Open the speaker or room controls

Choose the correct home, open Home or Devices, then open the speaker or Music page for the device you want to control. If the device is not reachable, check power and the displayed connection first. If the reading is Unknown, treat it as no valid reading rather than Off or zero.

  1. Open the correct home.
  2. Open Home or Devices.
  3. Select the speaker or room device.

After you open the device, you should see only the capabilities that are available for that speaker or group. Configuration permissions and ordinary controls are separate.

Change playback and volume

Use the controls that appear for the selected speaker or group. Volume and Muted affect the selected speaker or group as labelled. Play, Pause, Next, and Previous depend on what the provider says is available. Position can seek only a supported track; a radio or live stream may not have a seekable duration.

  1. Use Volume to adjust the selected speaker or group.Volume
  2. Use Muted if you want to silence the selected speaker or group.Muted
  3. Use Play, Pause, Next, or Previous only when those controls are shown for the device.PlayPauseNextPrevious
  4. Use Position only for a supported track, not for a radio or live stream that has no seekable duration.Position

The readings Elapsed, Length, and Position read at are read-only. Playing, Grouped with, and Voice assistant are also information, not controls.

Control several speakers together

Playing together selects supported speakers in this home. Everyone's volume and Everyone muted affect that group. Do not infer that a group change succeeded until fresh playback state confirms it.

  1. Use Playing together to select the supported speakers you want to manage together.Playing together
  2. Use Everyone's volume to change the volume for the group.Everyone's volume
  3. Use Everyone muted to mute the group.Everyone muted

After the change, check the current playback state again so you can confirm the new group setting.

When a control does not respond

  • Unknown means no valid reading, not Off or zero.
  • A requested value is provisional until the home answers.
  • Do not repeatedly execute an action to diagnose a failed read.
  • If the device is unreachable, check power and the displayed connection.
  • If it still does not respond, use Support with the room, name, and observed problem.
