Open the device you want to change
Choose the correct home, open Home or Devices, then open the assistant device you want to adjust. The page shows only the capabilities returned for that device, so you may not see every control listed here.
- Open Home or Devices in the correct home.
- Select the assistant device you want to change.
- Use the controls that appear for that device.
Adjust the assistant and speaker settings
- Change Listening if you want to control the software listener. This control appears only when supported for that device.Listening
- Review Muted on the device to check the hardware mute state. This is a reading, not a control.
- Change Announce volume to set the spoken-answer volume.Announce volume
- Change Playback if you want the room to Let the room decide, Duck the music, or Take over the speakers, where those options are offered.Playback
- Change Output volume to adjust the local audio output.Output volume
- Use Identify this device only when you want the device to produce its supported identification signal.Identify this device
If a control is not shown, that capability is not returned for that device.
What you should see afterwards
- The device page still shows only the controls and readings that belong to that assistant device.
- Changed values may appear as provisional until the home answers.
- If the device is reachable, the updated setting should be reflected on the device detail page.
If the device does not respond
Unknown means no valid reading, not Off or zero. If you request a change and the device does not respond, check power and the displayed connection state. Use Support with the room, device name, and the problem you observed.
Do not keep repeating the same action to diagnose a failed read. If your phone or tablet uses different wording for the same capability, follow the label shown on screen instead of trying to use a different gesture.
