Choose the connection path
Select the home where the product is installed. For local discovery, open Add a device and choose Connect something new → Govee, or open Govee under Integrations and choose Connect and look. The local path requires LAN control and a device that is already on Wi-Fi. For cloud discovery, open Add a device and choose Connect something new → Govee Cloud. That path uses your Govee Developer API key and internet, and it does not use LAN control.
- Open Add a device and choose Connect something new → Govee for the local connection, or choose Connect something new → Govee Cloud for the account connection.
- If you started from Integrations, open Govee there and choose Connect and look for the local connection.IntegrationsConnect and look
- Use the local path only when the product already has Wi-Fi and LAN control enabled. Use the cloud path when you want account discovery with internet and a Govee Developer API key.
Discover devices and place them
After you start discovery, wait for the hub to search. When a device appears, name it and place it in a room. Use Look for devices when you add another product later or after its network address changes. For the cloud choice, use Find account devices to discover devices already on that Govee account and then place each one in a room. The direct Add a device list shows connected brands after the device is connected. Use the shared room placement workflow for both choices. The phrase device-reported applies to the state you read back after discovery or control.
- For local discovery, choose Connect and look or Look for devices and wait for the search to finish.Connect and lookLook for devices
- For cloud discovery, enter your Govee Developer API key, connect, and then use Find account devices to look again.
- Name each recognized device and place it in the correct room.
Use the device after it is connected
Open the device's normal ALYT controls after setup. Local devices use the controls that their model declares, such as power, brightness, colour, and, where supported, colour temperature. Govee H6182 uses the same local connection as other supported local models. Cloud devices also use their actual advertised controls and readings. Brightness in Govee Cloud shows as a percentage in normal controls and routines, and valid readings stay usable even when the provider reports values such as 255 or rounding 101. State is device-reported, so wait for the device to answer before you assume a change succeeded.
- Open the device's normal ALYT controls.
- Use power, brightness, colour, and colour temperature only when the model supports them.
- Do not expect segments, music, or proprietary scenes to appear as working controls.
- If the device reports a value, treat it as device-reported rather than independent physical confirmation.
Brightness, colour temperature, and routines
Some lights round brightness by one percentage point, and ALYT shows the percentage the device actually reports. A delayed read does not cause a repeated physical command. When an RGB strip does not confirm a temperature change, choose a warm-white colour instead. Save that warm-white colour in its routines, including shared nested routine steps, so the same look stays consistent across several routines. This approximates warm white and does not guarantee an exact Kelvin match.
Keep one route per device
Use one active local or cloud route per physical Govee identity in a home. Do not keep two active routes for the same device. ALYT does not silently merge rooms, transfer routine references, or retry an uncertain local command through cloud. Disable the previous device route before you change it. The local route and the cloud route are separate choices, and the local route does not automatically fall back to cloud.
If discovery does not find the product
If the product does not appear, check power, Wi-Fi, and LAN control for the local connection, then scan again. If ALYT requests a Hub update, install it before discovery. If the device still does not appear, power the product off and on, wait about 30 minutes, and check again. If it still does not respond, contact Govee support. A scan with no answer does not prove that the model is unsupported.
- Check that the device has power.
- For the local connection, check Wi-Fi and LAN control.
- Run Look for devices again, or use Find account devices for the cloud connection.Look for devices
- If ALYT asks for a Hub update, install it before you try discovery again.
What you should see afterwards
After a successful connection, the device appears in your selected ALYT home and can be placed in a room. You can open its normal controls from the home view. Local devices show only the capabilities their model supports. Cloud devices show the capabilities returned by the account connection. Existing room settings stay in place when a device is rediscovered.
