Add a Matter device
This setup is available in ALYT on your phone and on the web console. It uses your home hub to add a Matter device to your rooms and routines. Availability depends on your hub’s reported support, and a built-in badge alone does not mean the hub is ready.
- Open Add a device and choose A Matter device.
- Choose Home hub. If your home has only one eligible hub, ALYT selects it automatically.
- If the hub has not reported compatible Matter support, bring it online with matching firmware before you continue. If the hub is ready but not attached to Thread when you chose Thread, select Prepare home connection and wait for the hub to confirm it is ready.
- Enter Device name and choose Room.
- Choose Device network. Select Thread · your hub’s network or Wi-Fi · your home network to match the accessory’s instructions.
- Put the accessory in pairing mode. If another app already controls it, open that app’s sharing window and use its new Matter code instead of factory-resetting it just to share it.
- Scan Matter QR code or enter the Matter setup code printed on the device. Camera permission is optional because manual code entry remains available.
- If you chose Wi-Fi, enter Wi-Fi network name and Wi-Fi password.
- Select Add device.
On the web, the setup screen also offers a camera preview for scanning the Matter QR code, and it includes Enter code instead if you want to type the printed code instead of using the camera. On iPhone and Android, camera scanning is also optional; manual code entry remains available.
What you should see next
The screen shows progress while your hub performs setup. Keep the device powered and near the hub. Only Added to your home means setup finished.
If setup finishes, the device becomes available in its room and you can open it from the device screen. If the device has more than one endpoint, ALYT opens each endpoint separately with its own Open device button.
You can leave the screen during setup. ALYT keeps the saved setup record so you can return later and read the result.
Check progress, fix a connection, or cancel setup
- Open the Matter device’s screen if you need to check saved progress after setup starts.
- Select Check saved progress to reread the saved result.
- If the device is still active and has not been commissioned yet, you can select Cancel setup.
- If the saved result could not be read, wait a moment and select Check again before trying to add the same device a second time.
- If a device later stops answering, use Fix connection on its device screen. This checks the same device and keeps its name, room, and routines in place.
Battery devices may need their button pressed to wake them before a repair check. Quiet sensors do not need to report continuously.
Remove a Matter device
- Open the device screen and choose Remove device.
- Confirm the removal only when you want this home’s access removed from the physical device.
- Keep the device powered and reachable until removal finishes.
- If the device has more than one endpoint, ALYT removes all endpoints from this home.
- After removal, review any routines that referenced the device.
Other Matter homes keep their access. A pending, rejected, or uncertain removal is not a successful removal.
Troubleshooting
- If ALYT says the hub has not reported compatible Matter support, update the hub with matching firmware and try again.
- If the hub is busy, wait for it to finish another Matter operation before you start a new one.
- If the camera cannot start, allow camera access or enter the printed setup code instead.
- If the saved result could not be read, use Check again rather than adding the same device a second time.
- If the device has not answered during repair or removal, wake it if needed and try again; you do not need to add it again.
