Doorbell announcements

Turn Doorbell announcements on or off and set the volume

Open the doorbell device, then More / Configuration and Doorbell announcement. Doorbell announcements are available on web, iOS, and Android.

1. Open the doorbell device.
2. Open More / Configuration and Doorbell announcement.
3. Turn on Announce throughout the home if you want a spoken doorbell alert. Turn it off to stop the spoken alert and keep the regular doorbell notification settings separate.
4. If Announce throughout the home is on, set Announcement volume from 0 to 100%.
5. Save the change if your app asks you to confirm it.

After you save, the setting stays with that doorbell in this home.

What happens when the doorbell rings

• A gentle chime plays first, then Simone announces the doorbell by name.
• The spoken line is “Someone is at the {thing.name}.”
• The announcement plays in every room with connected Sonos speakers.
• Room quiet hours still apply.
• Sonos handles lowering and returning background audio where supported.
• Announcements use the soundbar in a home theater or the left speaker in a stereo pair, without separate copies on bonded speakers or regrouping rooms.
• Playback across rooms is not promised synchronized or instantaneous.
• Normal phone notifications and their camera links are independent of this switch.
• Turning the announcement off does not disable the notification, live view, or talk.

After a successful setup, you should hear the chime and spoken announcement in eligible rooms when the doorbell is pressed.

Troubleshooting

• If you do not hear the announcement, check that Announce throughout the home is on and that the Announcement volume is not set to 0%.
• If only some rooms speak, check the room’s speaker connection and whether quiet hours are active there.
• If the setting saves but nothing plays, make sure the doorbell still has a valid Sonos room path in this home.
• If you changed the setting and the app did not finish saving, try again when the doorbell card is no longer busy.
• If you only want regular notifications, turn Announce throughout the home off; the camera link and notification remain available.
