Watch a camera and use two-way talk

WebiPhoneAndroid

Open the camera, start live view, talk if your camera supports it, and optionally record a short clip to your phone.

Open the camera

  1. Open the correct home, then open the camera device page. On the camera page, the live view is started from the control labeled Watch live. [Watch live]Watch live

Watch the live view

  1. Press Watch live to start the camera feed. If the camera supports it, the page may first show Connecting or another waiting state while the picture starts.Watch live
  2. When the live view starts, you should see the moving camera picture on the page. If the camera does not answer, stop and try again later rather than pressing Watch live repeatedly.Watch live

Use two-way talk

  1. If the camera shows Start two-way talk, press it to begin speaking through the camera.Start two-way talk
  2. When talk is active, the button changes so you can stop the call from the same place. Two-way talk is bounded and is not an always-open microphone.
  3. If the camera audio is too loud or too quiet, use Mute camera audio or Unmute camera audio to change listening without ending the call.

Record a clip to your phone

  1. While you are watching a supported live view, press Record a clip to this phone on mobile or Record clip on web to begin a temporary clip.
  2. When you want to finish the clip, press Stop recording and keep the clip on mobile or Stop recording on web. [Record clip] [Stop recording]
  3. After the clip stops, choose Save if you want to keep it, or Discard if you do not want it. On mobile, Save opens the phone share sheet for the temporary clip.
  4. Finish saving or sharing before you leave the page. Leaving the live view does not save the clip for you.

Doorbell announcement

If your camera is also a doorbell and the home shows Doorbell announcement, you can turn on Announce throughout the home from the camera settings. When it is on, the home announces the doorbell event and still sends the normal phone notification. Turning it off does not disable the camera or the notification.

What you should see afterwards

  • The camera page shows the current live picture when Watch live is active.
  • If talk is supported, the Start two-way talk control is available and can be ended from the same control.
  • If recording is supported, Save and Discard appear after a clip stops.
  • If Doorbell announcement is available, Announce throughout the home appears in the camera settings, and the normal phone notification still arrives.

Troubleshooting

  • If Watch live does nothing, the camera may be offline or not available in your home.
  • If talk does not start, your camera may not support Start two-way talk, or the microphone permission may be blocked on your phone or browser.
  • If no recording controls appear, the camera may not support recording, or the live view may not be active.
  • If you started a clip and changed your mind, use Discard instead of leaving the page.
  • If the doorbell setting is missing, this camera does not currently offer Doorbell announcement in the supported workflow.
