Choose Sonos and Plex connections

Open Media connections

In the selected home, open Media connections. This section lets you choose how the home reaches its speakers and music library.

1. Open the home settings for the home you want to change.
2. Open Media connections.
3. Wait for the Sonos and Plex choices to load.

Choose the Sonos connection

Use the Sonos menu to choose how this home reaches Sonos. A PLATFORM-hosted home normally uses Through the cloud, and a reachable local connector may also be available if this home is correctly bound. A SELF-hosted home normally uses Through the local connector. Use Use home default only when you want this home to follow the home’s current default. Not enabled appears only when the home has no Sonos connection available.

1. In the Sonos menu, choose one of these exact labels: Use home default, Through the cloud, Through the local connector, or Not enabled.
2. If Through the local connector is unavailable, read the reason shown under Sonos before you choose another option.
3. If you are changing Sonos on a PLATFORM-hosted home, confirm that the local connector is actually bound to this home before selecting Through the local connector.
4. Wait for the save to finish.

Choose the Plex connection

Use the Plex menu to choose how this home reaches Plex. Plex does not offer a cloud choice. The available choices are Use home default, Through the local connector, and Not enabled. On a SELF-hosted home, Plex normally uses the local connector when it is available. On a PLATFORM-hosted home, Plex is available only when this home has a reachable local connector; otherwise it remains disabled.

1. In the Plex menu, choose one of these exact labels: Use home default, Through the local connector, or Not enabled.
2. If Through the local connector is unavailable, read the reason shown under Plex before you choose another option.
3. Wait for the save to finish.

What you should see afterwards

After the change is saved, the page shows Connection saved. The help text under Sonos or Plex shows the selected effective route, such as Selected: cloud connection., or Selected: local connector., or it says Local library access is not enabled. when no local library route is active.

Troubleshooting

• If the page says Media connection settings could not be read., choose Retry and try again.
• If a menu is disabled, the home may not be allowed to use that route or the connector is not bound to this home. Read the reason shown under the menu.
• If saving fails, the error message appears on the page. Try again after the other editor finishes or reloads the home settings.
• If Sonos is busy finishing audio restoration, wait and try the Sonos change again.
• If the home is PLATFORM-hosted and you want a local route, make sure the home has a correctly bound local connector before you change the menu.
• If you changed the wrong home, reopen Media connections for the correct home and set the choices there.
