Use room and device names with approved speech aliases

WebiPhoneAndroid

Use current room, device, endpoint, and routine names as the real context, then add approved speech aliases only when they help identify the same object. Aliases explain an object; they do not rename it or grant permission.

How names and aliases work

ALYT uses the current room, device, and routine names as physical context. An approved speech alias is an additional way to identify the same object. It does not rename the object and it does not grant permission. Device acquisition and ordinary controls work without speech hints.

Routine hints can describe a routine's purpose and effects. These hints explain the existing saved routine. They do not change its actions or create a new routine.

After an object changes room, name, controls, or saved behavior, ALYT checks the hints against the current object and withholds stale hints. Read the current revision before correcting a conflicting or concurrent edit. An ambiguous spoken name prompts clarification.

Approve names and microphone consent

Open Voice on the web, or open Voice under your profile settings on iOS or Android. In Speech names and routine meaning, choose an existing room, device, endpoint, or saved routine. Enter aliases one per line.

A saved routine also has purpose keys and effect summaries. Choose Approve speech hints. Each field accepts up to eight entries. Aliases and summaries have at most 120 characters, and purpose keys use lowercase letters, numbers, and underscores. The platform refuses a name already belonging to another object. Refresh after a conflicting edit.

For a selected microphone, the current home Owner opens Household microphone consent. Select permitted ordinary controls, optionally select saved routines, and choose a duration from one to thirty days. Save exact consent updates that finite grant; Revoke voice consent withdraws unsent device authority. These controls do not authenticate a speaker or permit locks, alarms, or security disarming. Other home members do not receive Owner grant controls.

What you should see afterwards

You should see the approved alias or hint available for the intended object, while the underlying object name and permissions remain unchanged. If the hint is stale or conflicts with another object, ALYT should withhold it and ask for clarification.

Troubleshooting

If ALYT uses the wrong object, check for a name change, room move, or saved-behavior change. Remove the stale hint and use the current object name. If the alias conflicts with another object, choose a more specific one.

If the shared microphone cannot distinguish who is speaking, use a supported identity context for personal references, or speak the current room or device name directly.
