Organize rooms and their devices

Browse rooms and add a new room

Home shows room choices with All first. Selecting a room filters the devices shown on the page.

1. Open Home and look at the Rooms strip.
2. Select All to see everything, or select one room to focus on that room only.
3. Choose Add a room. If you are on web, this appears as Add a room in the strip; on iOS and Android, use the Add a room control from the home screen.Add a room
4. Pick one of the suggested room names or type your own name.
5. If the name is already in use, choose a different one.
6. Choose an icon for the room.
7. Select Save or Add room to create it.Save

Afterward, the new room appears in the Rooms strip. Creating a room does not add any devices to it.

Change a room’s name, icon, assistant behavior, and tile actions

Open the selected room’s settings to change how the room appears and how it behaves.

1. On Home, select the room you want to change.
2. Open Home settings for that room. On web, choose Settings from the selected room section. On iOS and Android, open the room settings page from the room view.Home settings
3. Edit Name if needed.
4. Choose a different Icon if needed.
5. In The assistant in this room, change Listening if you want that room to hear the wake word.
6. If Listening is off, the room shows that the microphone is switched off in software.
7. If you use quiet hours, enter both Quiet from and until in 24-hour form, such as 22:00 and 07:00. Enter both times, or leave both blank.
8. If you want room announcements at a different level, set the room’s speak-at volume where it is shown.
9. In The two actions on the tile, choose the First and Second actions from actions that are actually available in that room.
10. Select Save room.Save

Afterward, the room uses the saved name, icon, listening setting, quiet hours, room announcement volume, and tile actions. If you did not change anything, Save room closes without making a new copy of the room.

Move a device to another room

Move devices from the device’s own page on iOS and Android. On web, the room settings page also lists the room members and lets you move each one.

1. Open the device’s own page.
2. Open the Room setting on the device page, or use the Move control in the room settings member list on web.
3. Choose the destination room from the room list.
4. Check that the device now appears in the new room.

Afterward, the device belongs to the chosen room. A device and assistant in the same room belong together automatically; there is no extra speaker-pairing procedure.

Merge or remove rooms on web

Web includes room merge and room removal. These actions are not part of the phone workflow.

1. On Home, choose Merge when it is available.
2. Pick two or more rooms in the Rooms strip.
3. Choose the room name you want to keep in Room to keep.
4. Review the selected room names before you confirm.
5. Select Merge rooms to complete the merge, or Cancel to leave the rooms alone.
6. To remove a room, open that room’s settings and go to Remove this room.
7. Read the removal message before confirming.
8. Choose Remove room only if you want the room deleted and are sure about what will happen to its devices.

Afterward, merged rooms are replaced by the room you kept. Removed rooms are deleted after you confirm the removal warning.

If something does not look right

• A duplicate room name is refused when you add or edit a room.
• A read error is not the same as an empty room.
• If a device does not move, open the device page again and retry the room change.
• If you are on web and Merge is not available, you need at least two rooms to use it.
• If quiet hours are used, both times must be present and must use 24-hour form.
