Organize rooms and their devices

WebiPhoneAndroid

Use rooms to organize your home by place, rename how a room appears, and move devices into the right room. On the web you can also merge rooms or remove one with a separate confirmation. Creating a room does not add hardware, and a device and assistant in the same room already belong together automatically.

Browse rooms and add one

Home shows room choices with All first. Select a room to filter the devices shown for that room. To create a new room, choose Add a room, pick a suggestion or enter a name, and save using the displayed confirmation.

  1. Choose Add a room.Add a room
  2. Pick a suggestion or enter a room name.
  3. Save using the displayed confirmation.Save

A duplicate room name is refused. Creating a room does not add hardware.

Change a room

Open the selected room's settings to change how it appears. Name and Icon control the room display. Save applies the changes. Listening and quiet hours control the assistant in that room; use a start and an end, or leave both unset, in 24-hour form.

The two actions on the tile can be chosen from actions actually available in that room. On the web, Home settings is the place to reach room settings.

  1. Open the room's settings from Home settings on the web, or the selected room's settings on your phone.Home settings
  2. Update Name, Icon, or the listening and quiet hours times if needed.
  3. Save the changes.Save

After saving, the room keeps its new name, icon, or quiet-hour settings.

Move a device

Move a device into the correct room from the device's own page and its room setting on a phone. On the web, room settings also list members with a destination-room selector. Choose the room and verify the device appears there.

A device and assistant in the same room belong together automatically. There is no extra speaker-pairing procedure.

Merge or remove rooms on the web

Merge rooms lets you pick two or more rooms and Room to keep. Review the selected names before confirming. Cancel leaves the rooms alone.

Removing a room uses a separate removal confirmation. Read its consequence first. Do not treat merge as moving one tile from one room to another.

What to expect and common issues

  • Selecting a room filters the devices shown for that room.
  • A new room can be created even when no devices are assigned yet.
  • A duplicate room name is refused.
  • A read error is not the same as an empty room.
  • Opening Home can quietly refresh stale devices in the background; the pull-to-refresh spinner appears only for a manual pull.
