Set up Home Security

Use Home Security in Settings to choose which devices protect your home, set delays, choose sleeping-room coverage, and decide what happens when the alarm goes off. You can also review lock support, incident history, and routine approvals that affect security.

Set up Home Security on your home

Home Security lets you decide which compatible devices take part in protecting your home and what the system does when it alarms. Home owners can change these settings. Other household members may be able to view security and use live alarm actions, but they do not get the same setup access.

On web, open Settings and select Home Security. On iPhone and Android, open Settings, then select Home security. Apple TV and Google TV do not provide Home Security setup screens.

  1. Open Home Security for the home you want to manage.
  2. In Devices and rooms, review the automatically selected cameras, motion sensors, door and window contacts, vibration sensors, door locks, and sirens. Devices without a room appear under Unassigned.
  3. Turn a device on or off in Devices and rooms to decide whether it takes part in protection. If a device was not recognized automatically, use Include in Home Security from that device’s More screen when it is available.
  4. Check the What each mode watches section on mobile, or review the current mode coverage on web, so you understand what Away, Home, Sleep, and OFF mean before changing settings.
  5. Open the sleeping rooms section on mobile, or Sleep mode on web, and choose the rooms you use as sleeping quarters. Only selected sleeping quarters are disarmed in Sleep, while other selected sensors stay armed.
  6. Set Away exit delay for the time to leave after arming Away from off.
  7. Set Door / window entry delay for the time to turn the alarm off after you come in through a selected contact sensor.
  8. Open the alarm output section. Turn on or off Use Sonos speakers, Flash lights after dark, and siren output options to match how you want alarms to behave.
  9. If you use Sonos alarm output, read the deterrent message shown in the app before leaving the setting on.
  10. Review lock support information for each supported lock. You may see Keypad supported or Keypad not verified, and Inside unlock supported or Inside unlock not verified.

For delays, the available range is 0 to 180 seconds. On mobile, the app offers a list of delay values. On web, you can enter a value in seconds.

If a lock reports a verified correct-code keypad unlock, that unlock can disarm the whole home. A verified unlock from inside can also disarm the whole home when perimeter protection is armed.

Use Sonos speakers can sound the siren and spoken deterrent through available Sonos rooms. Flash lights after dark only works between sunset and sunrise for your home’s location.

ALYT does not contact police or send them camera footage. The deterrent message is a warning to people at the home, not a police dispatch feature.

What you should see afterwards

  • Your selected devices remain listed in Devices and rooms.
  • Your sleeping quarters selection is saved for Sleep mode.
  • Your Away exit delay and Door / window entry delay are shown with the saved values.
  • Your alarm output choices stay visible, including Use Sonos speakers and Flash lights after dark when enabled.
  • Lock entries can show Keypad supported and Inside unlock supported when those behaviors are verified for that lock.

If an alarm happens later, household members may see Dismiss this alert and Turn alarm off in the live security view when they have permission to use those actions. Dismiss this alert only clears that person’s alert view and does not turn the alarm off.

After you turn an alarm off, the home begins restoration. During restoration, lights, audio, and other alarm outputs are put back to their earlier state. OFF and completed restoration are not the same thing.

Review what happened and manage automatic security changes

Home Security also includes read-only history and routine approval details that affect automatic mode changes.

  1. Open Home security on mobile or Home Security on web.
  2. To review past alarm incidents on mobile, choose See what has happened. This history is read-only and does not change the current alarm state.
  3. If a routine is allowed to change security automatically, open that routine’s security review and use Review automatic changes to read every listed security action.
  4. If you own the home and agree with the review, choose Allow automatic changes.
  5. On phone, approval is confirmed with Yes, allow it after the review is shown.
  6. If you no longer want that routine to change Home Security by itself, use Withdraw automatic approval.

Automatic security changes need explicit security approval from the home owner. Saving or editing a routine does not approve it by itself.

A review can include OFF, and the review explains that turning it OFF disarms the whole home.

On web, TV security requests can ask a resident to approve a mode change for a linked TV. On Apple TV and Google TV, the TV can request approval, but setup and approval details stay on web or mobile.

Troubleshooting
