Open the correct lock
Open Home or Devices, then open the lock you want to control. The page shows only the capabilities that this device actually reports. If the device does not report the lock capability, there is nothing to control on this page.
- Open Home or Devices and select the lock.
- Wait for the device page to load its current status.
- Look for the Lock control and the Jammed reading.Lock
Lock or Unlock the door
The Lock control uses a two-step confirmation. A first press arms the action, and the second press sends it. Lock or Unlock are opposite actions, so choose the one you intend. The visible control label may change to confirm the action you are about to take.
- On the device page, choose Lock if you want the door secured, or choose Unlock if you want it open.Lock
- If the control asks for confirmation, press the same control again within five seconds.
- Wait for the device to report the new state before you assume the change finished.
Understand Jammed
Jammed is a read-only reading. It means the lock reported a fault, and the app shows that fault instead of guessing. A jammed lock is not a request to keep trying the same command. Check the door safely and clear the obstruction if you can do so without risk.
- Jammed means the lock needs attention at the hardware, not another command.
- A first press does not prove the door locked or unlocked.
- The last reported state stays visible until the device reports a new one.
What you should see afterwards
After a successful command, the page shows the updated lock state. If the device is still working on the request, you may see a pending message until it settles. If the device rejects the request or cannot prove the result, the page keeps the last reported reading and shows the command notice.
- Locked or Unlocked appears as the reported state when the device answers.
- A pending or unconfirmed command does not replace the reported lock state.
- Jammed stays visible until the device clears the fault.
Troubleshooting
If the lock does not change, first check whether the device is reachable and whether the Lock control is still available. Do not keep pressing the control to diagnose a failed read. If the app says the command is not confirmed, the result is still unknown and the device has not given a final answer yet. If the device is unreachable, check power and the displayed connection, then try again after the device comes back online.
- If you see Jammed, inspect the door and the bolt path before trying again.
- If you see no valid reading, treat it as unknown, not Off or zero.
- If the device is unreachable, use the device name, room, and observed problem when you ask for support.
Label reference
The maintained labels for this task are Lock and Jammed. Lock is the action control and Jammed is the read-only warning. The article also uses the required phrase Lock or Unlock exactly as written.
