Create a routine

1. Open Settings, choose Routines, and then choose New routine. On the web, you can also start from a template with Use this. The New routine control is labeled New routine. [New routine, plus]New routine
2. Enter a name for the routine and choose a home. Keep the home correct if you manage more than one home.
3. In When, add one or more triggers. Available triggers include a spoken phrase, a schedule, sunrise or sunset, A device changes, someone comes or goes, and Motion detected when a camera or sensor reports motion.
4. In Only if, add any conditions you want. Available conditions include a time range, specific days, after dark or daylight, A device is in a state, and someone home or nobody.
5. In Do, add the steps the routine should take. You can choose a room or the whole house, One device, Play music on Sonos, Set Home Security, Say something, Wait, Notify, or Run a routine.
6. Set the step order carefully. The routine runs actions in order, and a later problem does not mean earlier actions were undone. The order matters for every step that depends on a previous step.
7. Choose Save when you are finished. The Save control is labeled Save. [Save, check]Save

Sunrise and sunset use your home's saved address and timezone. If the home does not have a usable address, sun-based triggers and conditions cannot follow the sun correctly.

A routine needs a name and at least one step before you can save it.

Home Security is a separate step type inside routines. Saving or enabling a routine does not give automatic Home Security approval.

Choose triggers, conditions, and steps

• When can contain more than one trigger. Any one of them can start the routine.
• Only if can contain more than one condition. All of them must hold together.
• A schedule can run every day, or only on selected days.
• A time condition can cover any range, including overnight.
• A room or house action affects supported devices in that room or scope.
• A Notify step sends a household notification.
• A Run a routine step can run another routine, but not the same one you are editing.

If you use device-based triggers or conditions, choose only from the supported readings shown for that device. If you use One device in Do, choose from the controls that device currently supports.

For Say something, you can choose one room, every room with a speaker, or selected rooms when Some rooms is available. You can also set an optional message volume, or leave it empty to use each room's configured message volume.

Coffee ready announcements

If a step turns a coffee machine on, extra options appear under that step. When the coffee is ready appears beneath that power-on step.

1. Under the coffee machine power-on step, review When the coffee is ready.
2. Leave the default setting to announce in the machine's room, or choose Choose announcement rooms to pick one or more speaker rooms in this home.
3. If you want later steps to stay behind the coffee result, turn on Wait for the ready announcement.
4. Save the routine after you finish these options. The Save control is labeled Save. [Save, check]Save

Scheduled, voice, and manual routine runs use the selected rooms for the coffee-ready announcement. Quiet hours still apply in each selected room.

If there is no assigned room for the machine, or the announcement cannot be delivered, the ready result uses a phone notification instead.

Wait for the ready announcement keeps later steps behind confirmed power on, the machine reaching READY, and the completed announcement.

Run a routine now

1. Open Routines.
2. Find the routine you want to use.
3. Choose Run now. The Run now control is labeled Run now. [Run now, play]Run now

Run now works even when a routine has no triggers. On the web, Run now deliberately ignores the routine's conditions, so check what the routine will do before you use it.

Turning a routine Off stops its automatic triggers, but manual Run now still works.

Check what happened after a run

Open a routine's details to review What it does and the Last run section. Read the run details instead of assuming a requested change always completed.

• You can review When, Only if, and Do in the saved routine.
• Last run shows when it started and what caused it.
• Step results show what happened for each step.
• If a run was skipped, the routine shows why.

The assigned hub owns routine execution for schedules, local triggers, and routine runs. The platform stores the routine, records results, and can pass cloud-service actions to their provider, but it does not rerun the whole routine as a fallback.

A missing or stale reading is not treated as confirmation. If a device change was accepted but not confirmed, open the run details and check which step needs attention.

For speech, a room announcement can be reported as playback unconfirmed when delivery or confirmation was ambiguous. This is not proof that nobody heard it.

Earlier confirmed actions stay in place even if a later action fails. For motors and curtains, accepted does not mean stopped in the requested position.

For Sonos announcements, ALYT restores earlier playback and volume after the announcement when the provider confirms those operations.

How ALYT handles device state during a run

When a routine runs, a device that has freshly confirmed the requested state can be left alone. If a light is already on and only brightness or warmth must change, ALYT changes that setting directly.

Plain device settings around waits, speech, and other dependency steps are interpreted as a final light state. If you want an intentional intermediate state, add a separate Wait step.

If a light command is not confirmed, its earlier reading is not trusted to skip the next action. A curtain connection that never opened may be tried once more, but an already sent movement is not retried automatically.

Change, disable, or delete a routine

1. Open Routines and choose the routine you want to change.
2. Choose Edit, make your changes, and then choose Save. The Save control is labeled Save. [Save, check]Save
3. To stop automatic triggers without removing the routine, switch it Off.
4. To remove it completely, use Delete and confirm the removal.

Home Security approval

A routine can include Home Security steps, but automatic security changes need separate approval from the person who owns the home.

Running a routine by hand uses the current household authority. Scheduled, sensor, and voice-triggered security changes need separate approval for the complete saved routine, including nested routine changes in order.

If the routine or its approval changes, the approval must be reviewed again. Turning Home Security OFF disarms the whole home.

On phone, the review flow is separate from Save. Approve or Approve the change records the review you are looking at, and Yes, allow it confirms that same review. Not now cancels the review.

If the review changes while you are reading it, read it again before allowing it.
