Use Zigbee controls and understand their readings

WebiPhoneAndroid

Use Zigbee controls in ALYT to view device readings and send the controls your home already supports. The same device page and readings are available on web, iPhone, and Android, but only the controls shown for your home and role are writable. Readings expose original age/source/expiry; stale clear safety readings are unknown.

Open the device you want to check

  1. Choose your home, open Devices, and open the device or its additional control target.
  2. Check the controls and reported readings that appear on the device page. The same controls and reported readings appear on web, iPhone and Android.
  3. Use only the controls that are shown for that device or target. A displayed control is an actual mapped capability, and a read-only reading cannot be changed.

Read thermostat values and change a target when it is offered

A thermostat shows the room's measured temperature separately from Target and Mode. Temperature and Target are separate readings. A target is the requested setpoint, not evidence that the room is warming or cooling.

  1. Open the thermostat device page and look for Temperature, Target, and Mode.
  2. If Target is offered, choose only a permitted target from the device's supported steps.
  3. If Mode is offered, choose only one of the device's declared choices.
  4. Use your temperature unit preference if you want Celsius or Fahrenheit display. The display changes presentation only and does not change the device's allowed grid.
  5. Save the change if your home requires approval for AI actions. Approval and execution are separate decisions.

Celsius and Fahrenheit show the same setting. The platform validates the normalized Celsius value and the mapped device range and step. If a device cannot expose an unambiguous supported target, it shows reporting without granting a target write.

Read cover position and send cover commands

For a cover, position is a percentage open. Closed is 0 and Open is 100. Open, Close, Stop, and Target position are offered only when the device supports them. FanBee1–254 raw, Tuya0–254 requests quantized five reports through255, not percentages; IKEA read-only0–9 speed, numbered presets.

  1. Open the cover device page and read the current position first.
  2. Choose a target before sending it if Target position is offered.
  3. Use Open, Close, or Stop only when those controls are shown for that device.
  4. Read the latest reported position after the command. A transport acknowledgement means the command reached a transport stage, but the device's own report establishes the observed position.

Read sensors and other read-only Zigbee measurements

Temperature, humidity, light level, CO2, PM2.5, Water detected, Smoke alarm, CO alarm, and Tamper are separate readings when the device reports them. Missing, invalid, or stale data remains unknown rather than becoming zero or a fresh reading.

  1. Open the device page and find the reading you want to check.
  2. Read the observation time and reachability alongside the value.
  3. Treat battery or signal updates as separate from room measurements. A battery or signal update does not refresh a room measurement.
  4. For Water detected, Smoke alarm, CO alarm, and Tamper, read the value as a reported fact only. These readings do not automatically add a detector to Home Security or create a controllable siren.

Understand additional targets and household limits

A physical device can expose several separately named controls. Each additional target keeps its own device page and room assignment. Naming a target does not change its physical endpoint, and the original device and existing routines retain their identity. There is no catalogue on hub RAM.

  1. Open the additional target if you need to control that named endpoint.
  2. Use the original device page for Zigbee network repair or removal.
  3. If a control is unavailable, read its stated capability or mapping limitation instead of trying to force it.
  4. Do not rely on a brand name, library match, or model description to create a control that is not shown.

If readings or controls do not look right

A sleeping device can remain paired while it has not sent a recent measurement. Retained display values and a radio acknowledgement never substitute for a new physical observation.

  1. Read the latest report before sending another physical action.
  2. Check whether the device page shows the control as read-only or unavailable.
  3. For network recovery, use the physical device and the existing confirmed recovery workflow.
  4. Do not repeatedly reset a sleeping device.
