Set up what a button does

Open the remote

Open Home or Devices, then open the remote or button. The remote page shows the drawing of the remote, the last press in words, and its battery and signal when the device reports them. There is nothing to press on this page. A remote is pressed by hand, and ALYT does not press it for you.

On the web and phone, use Remote details and what each button does to get to the setup screen. On TV, you only see the remote’s readings; what each button does is not set up there.

What the remote page tells you

• If the remote has never reported a press, the page says No press yet.
• If it has reported one, the page names the button, the gesture, and how long ago it happened.
• The page only shows battery and signal when the remote reported them.
• Seeing a last press means the remote sent a report; it does not mean another device changed state.

Open the configuration

1. On the remote page, select Remote details and what each button does.Remote details and what each button does
2. If you are on the web, the Configuration card opens under the remote details. If you are on the phone, Configuration opens one press at a time inside the remote details screen.
3. If you do not have permission to change settings, the screen stays read-only and tells you to ask the home owner.

Set what one press does

1. Choose the button and the press you want to edit. On the web, choose the cell in the Configuration grid. On the phone, choose Button, then the press row.Button

4. If you choose Run a routine, search the home’s existing routines and pick one. It uses the routine you already have; it does not create a new one.Run a routine

7. Add more steps if needed. They run in the order shown.
8. Use the move controls to change step order if needed.
9. Remove a step if you no longer want it in this press.

What you can expect after saving

• The press keeps the steps you saved in order.
• A press with no steps is removed from the remote’s record.
• If the remote later reports fewer buttons or presses than before, any missing presses appear in a dimmed removed section and nothing runs them.
• On the web and phone, unsaved changes stay visible until you save or discard them.

On the web, the current press is saved from the cell you chose. On the phone, Configuration keeps multiple unsaved presses together, and the screen marks them until you save or discard them.

Using the web or phone

• On the web, choose the cell directly in Configuration.
• On the phone, use Button and the press row to move between presses.
• On the web, Cancel leaves the current press unchanged.
• On the phone, Discard throws away all unsaved press changes.
• On the phone, Save keeps all unsaved press changes at once.

Troubleshooting

• If a press does nothing, first confirm the remote page shows that the press was heard. If it does not, check the battery, try the button again, and make sure the remote is still in range.
• If a step is rejected, the screen names the button and press that need attention. Change the step and save again.
• If a routine step does not start, open the routine itself and confirm it still exists in this home.
• If a device command step fails, confirm the target device is in this home and is still available.
• If the remote reports fewer buttons or presses than before, remove the dimmed stale presses with Remove this press or Remove these presses. They are removed together.

Run a routine starts the selected routine even if it is switched off or its Only if conditions are false. Cloud actions in that routine need a working provider connection.
