Open the remote
Open the remote in your home. On the remote page, you should see the remote drawing, the last press in words, and battery and signal details when the device reports them. There is nothing to press on that page. A remote is pressed by hand; ALYT cannot press it for you.
Where the button setup lives
What each press of this remote runs is set on the remote's own details screen. Open Remote details and what each button does to reach the Configuration card. This is the remote's own record, not a routine list.
Run a routine starts the selected routine even if it is switched off or its Only if conditions are false. Cloud actions in that routine need a working provider connection.
Use the Configuration card
- In Configuration, choose the Button you want to change. The list shows one row for each button the remote reports.Button
- Choose the press you want to edit. The available press labels are Press, Press twice, Press three times, Hold, and Hold down.
- Read the current steps for that button and press. If nothing is set up yet, the card says Nothing yet. Add a step below.Add a step
- Choose Add a step to add the next action.Add a step
- Choose Run a routine to search your home's routines and pick one that already exists. This runs the routine you already have; it does not create a new one.Run a routine
- Choose Device command to pick a room, then a device in that room, then the control and its value. This step can target a device in your home or a cloud action that depends on its provider connection.Device command
- Choose Wait to pause for a number of seconds before the next step.Wait
- Use the move and remove controls to change the order of steps or remove one step at a time.
- Choose Save to keep the changes, or Discard to throw away unsaved changes.SaveDiscard
The order on screen is the order that runs. A saved cell with no steps returns to Nothing.
What you should see afterwards
After you save, the selected press should show its steps in order on the remote's Configuration card. If the remote later reports fewer buttons or fewer presses, the missing ones appear under No longer on this remote, dimmed, with their steps. The home owner removes them with Remove this press or Remove these presses, and those stale presses are removed together.
A changed press may be marked as unsaved before you save. On the phone, the Button picker shows one press at a time, and the unsaved dot appears beside changed presses. On the web, the grid shows the cell directly.
Phone and web differences
On the web, you choose a cell directly in the Configuration grid. On the phone, you choose Button first and then move through the press row with the previous and next arrows. On the phone, Discard throws away all unsaved press changes. On the web, Cancel leaves the current press unchanged. Presses this remote can no longer send are removed together on both platforms.
Troubleshooting
If a press does nothing, first check the remote page. The last press line should name the button and what happened. If it does not, the remote may be asleep or out of range. Try the button again and check battery level.
If the press is heard but the result is not what you expected, reopen the press on Configuration and check the steps in order. A dimmed cell with a reason means the hub cannot carry out that press as written. Change the step or remove the press if it is no longer valid.
If Save is refused, the reason stays on screen. Open the press named in the message, change the step it names, and try Save again.
If a routine step fails, open that routine's run history as well as the button press you saved. The routine history shows whether the routine ran and which step failed. The button setup only stores what the press should run; it does not fix a routine that was removed or a provider connection that is unavailable.
If you use a routine step, remember that Run a routine starts the selected routine even if it is switched off or its Only if conditions are false. Cloud actions in that routine need a working provider connection.
